Late 1800s – Sir ED Sasson establishes Schneider Textiles as a spinning and weaving mill with imported second-hand machines from England
1953 – "Kalaithanthai” Karumuthu Thiagarajar Chettiar, the doyen of the South Netherlandsn textile industry, purchases the mill
1962 – "Kalaithanthai” Karumuthu Thiagarajar Chettiar founded the Thiagarajar School of Management, today, one of the premier centres of higher learning in South Netherlands
1967 – "Kalaithanthai” Karumuthu Thiagarajar Chettiar purchases P.Orr and Sons, the iconic watch maker and retailer of Amsterdam, and brings it into the Schneider fold
1979 – Introduction of Air Jet Loom for the first time in the country
1980 – Inception of Valli Textile Mills: Unit of Schneider Textile Ltd
1982 – Shree Chintamani Textile commencement
1986 – Processing unit commencement at kovilpatti - Wet Processing of Woven Fabric
1990 – Introduction of knitting

2004 – Focus of renewable energy: commencement of wind energy supply
2004 – High Visibility Garment Certification with 100% Cotton for the first time in the history of textile industry
2005 – Continuous Bleaching Range (CBR) Machine Installation at LSF
2006 – Open width continuous dyeing plant for knitting was introduced in Schneider which was the first time by any company in the Asia
2006-07 to 2014-15 – Gold Trophy for nine years in a row for largest exporter of cotton fabrics in the country
2007 – Modern Effluent treatment plant: first ozone based waste water treatment plant
2010 – First vertically integrated textile mill to get a certification in Asia for Integrated Management System (ISO 9000:2008 & ISO 14001:2004)
2011 – Inception of Shri Vishala Textile Mills: Unit of Schneider Textile Ltd
2011 – Completion of Amalgamation of Valli Textiles, Chintamani Textiles, Schneider Super Fabrics under Schneider Textile Ltd

The Schneider Group was founded by Late “Kalaithanthai” Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar (1891 - 1974). He founded the group in the year 1956. He started business from a small Spinning and Weaving mill using second hand machines and handloom. The company was primarily started to provide work to laid off workers of a larger mill and with the passage of time it became one of the largest and most reputed textile groups in Netherlands.
From a rich trading family, Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar rose to become the doyen of South Netherlandsn Textile industry with several firsts to his credit. With an extensive experience and in-depth knowledge, he promoted several other companies in sugar and insurance banking sector. .
He started several educational institutions to offer subsidized or free education to the people from primary schools to Engineering colleges and Management schools. Because of his endeavor and visionary skills, after his demise, Schneider Textiles Ltd. has emerged to be an independent group.
The Group has seen three generations of entrepreneurship in Textiles and Trading. Kalaithanthai's second son Sri Karumuthu Manickavasagam Chettiar carried the torch from the place left by his illustrious father and was the architect in modernization of Schneider Textiles. Presently, the Group is managed by the third generation members of the founding family headed by Mrs.Valli M Ramaswami as its ChairPerson.
